Marceline boys Basketball comes to a end Saturday night

Friday night at Trenton the Marceline boys beat Carrollton 48-29 to advance to the Class 3 District 16 championship game. The Tigers were led by Sam Gillman who had 15, Wyatt Malloy scored 14 and Zach Niemeier had 11. On Saturday night in the championship against Milan, Marceline led by 1 at the end of the first three quarters. In the final quarter Milan pulled ahead by 4 late in the game but Zach Niemeier hit a 3 to pull the Tigers within 1. The Tigers fouled to put the Wildcats at the line where they hit two free throws to make it 47-44 with 7 seconds left. The Tigers had a chance to tie with a 3 pointer but were unable to get a shot off and Milan held on for a district championship. Will Heller led the Tigers with 16 and Sam Gillman scored 15. The Tigers season ends at 10-15 and Milan is now 20-8 and will play in Kirksville Wednesday night in the sectionals at Truman State. In the girls championship game Friday night, Milan defeated Trenton and will also play Wednesday in Kirksville.
