Just a reminder that most city, county, state and federal offices, banks and more will be closed today in observance of the newest National Holiday known as Juneteenth, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. All of us should take time to remember and educate ourselves on the events of June 19, 1865, the day Union soldiers told enslaved Black American’s in Galveston, Texas, the war was over and they were free.
